New! Mayfair Witches From Page to Screen

As I have been going through reviews and posts on social media like YouTube, Twitter and Facebook, the reviews of the show, Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches, seem to be mixed.  One thing I was surprised at and certainly not alone with is that the characters of Michael Curry and Aaron Lightner are...well, just not there.

Season 2, Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches on AMC

As the series heads for Season Two, the most we can guess is that it will revolve mainly around the second book in the Lives of the Mayfair Witches, Lasher.  So, will the non-appearance of either Michael Curry or Aaron Lightner become an issue?  Depends.

Returning to the discussion of Season 1, there are, of course, many things that would not have made the transition from page to screen well, if at all.  Some of those things, such as the Mayfair Emerald being a literal key with emeralds embedded in it, are understandable.  And through Orange Comet and OpenSea (links can also be found on Anne Rice's Immortal Universe), the emerald key might just become something iconic in its own right.

Obviously, it isn't simply down to a difference in accessorizing.  To begin to explore the differences between the books and the series, to look at those things both big and small, it's possible we can see what works and what doesn't in ways that don't immediately jump out at us.

So, the Parlor has yet another new page on the main website: Mayfair Witches From Page to Screen

"Are you coming in or not, Rowan Mayfair?" The Witching Hour, pg. 683

As I go over more reactions of critics and fans of the Mayfair Witches, and, of course, binge-watch the series another time, I will add differences to the lists as I find them.

Even if you are not crazy about the series, its soundtrack is worth a listen.  It definitely has a mystical element to it that suggests the rich, unique spiritual traditions of New Orleans.  The Parlor does have a YouTube channel, and hopefully, it now shows the playlist I've added that has the soundtrack...
