Hurricane Hilary

The Parlor is in a state of alarm tonight as Hurricane Hilary makes her way toward the coast of Southern California.

I have family in that very part of Southern California.  This is a region that isn't known for getting slammed by hurricanes.  It has happened before, yes.  But so far, the last time a tropical storm hit the coast of Southern California, it was at Long Beach in 1939.  It's been even longer since a hurricane hit there--1858, I believe.

So far, the Governor of California has declared a State of Emergency for at least 11 counties.  Berms are being built of sand along the coast, and I understand Catalina Island has been evacuated.

This is absolutely terrifying.  This is a region not really prepared for hurricanes or even tropical storms because it's been 84 years since the last time anything like this hit there.  

The Parlor is watching and praying with the rest of the world for the safety of all who are in the path of Hurricane Hilary.
